These small trees are thorny and rugged, and have numerous pure white flowers in the spring time, which produce red fruit in the fall. It grows 20 - 30 feet in height, with a spread of about 20 - 25 feet, in climate zones 5 - 9. The leaves are 1 - 3 inches long, and 1 - 2 inches wide. The tree has characteristic 1 - 3 inch thorns on the trunk and branches.
