Prunus blireiana (Cherry Plum)
The Prunus genus has more than 400 species, and we have selected the Flowering Cherry Plum. This tree grows to about 20 feet in height, with a spread of 20 feet. The leaves are red/purple to green/bronze, and change to red/bronze in the fall, and are about 2 inches long, and 1 inch wide. It is fairly dense branching. The spring flowers are beautiful, with their delicate bright pink color, and it is the only purple-leaf plum to have double flowers. This tree does not bear fruit. It grows well in Climate Zone 5, and is fairly resistant to cold weather in the spring.
